Surface Area

Today in math class Mr.O handed back our quiz and test that we wrote before the break. We then corrected our test and question number 17 was a hard one! We got a sheet for a review of what we did before the break. We then corrected it.

Next we started on the new unit which was surface area.

To determine a 3-D object you have to look and count its faces, vertices (corners, points), and edges. The flat area on a cube is called the face. As you can see on this cube, the yellow, green, and blue area are the faces. There would be 6 faces on this cube.

The vertex is a point on a cube where 3 or more edges meet. In this picture there are 8 vertices because there are 4 on the top and 4 on the bottom.

An edge is the line where 2 faces come together. So in the picture you can see a red face and a green face so one edge is between those 2 faces. There would be a total of 12 edges.

We also went through how to draw images from a top, front, and side view of an image. It is easier to draw these views using isometric dot paper.

The homework in E.L.A is to put your layerd assignments at home onto epearl. Also to start bringing in your costumes for your group skit on Thursday.
