This morning I came to school. Then instead of math we played kings and queens of the court if you don't no what that is go look it up because I don't feel like explaining it. My team (Thebes) Won three out of however many games we played. Yay Thebes! (:

Newspapers and kings of the court

In E.L.A we are making newspaper articles and eventually we are going to make our own newspaper! I like to write stories and articles so making our own newspaper should be good!

Our challenge today was kings of the court! Sparta tied for 3rd! I wonder what our next challenge will be!

Jokes!

Our teacher talks to herself; does yours?
Yes, but she doesn't realize it; she thinks we're actually listening!

PUPIL: Teacher, would you punish me for something I didn't do?
TEACHER: Of course not.
PUPIL: Good, because I didn't do my homework.

If you had one dollar and you asked your father for another, how many dollars would you have?

Canada got another gold medal yesterday in women's hockey. They won 2-0. Go Canada! We'll have to see if the men can do just as well.

Transition,, Olympics - X Games

Now, as most as you know, we are doing a lot of Olympic things in school. However the Olympics are coming to an end. We are getting into skateboarding season. Currently, we are 114 days from Go Skateboarding Day. Go Skateboarding Day is an unofficial annual holiday conceived by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) to promote skateboarding. It is usually marked on June 21. Also, we are 151 days from the X-Games. The X-Games is a commercial annual sports event, controlled and arranged by US sports broadcaster ESPN, which focuses on extreme action sports. The inaugural X Games was held in the summer of 1995 in Rhode Island. Personally, I like skateboarding because it's just a thrill when you land a trick. I love it.

Newspapers

Lately in E.L.A. class we have been learning: memorizing words eg. cutline (a.k.a. caption), city editor, columnist and we've also read and summarized and much more. Today we were to make up a caption to a picture from a recent newspaper. We got a picture and a little piece of paper. The paper we folded in half and on one side we made a possible caption for the picture. On the other side we put a humor caption. Can you make a caption (humor or not) for this picture?

Alex Brandon/The Associated Press

5...is the dream still alive?

Long way to go 8O, but I am guessing that a group of you may be watching the Canada - Russia match and might be posting afterwards.  Last I checked, score was 7-3 Canada.

As CP says (shouts) "Go Canada Go!"

Good luck.

No Homework! Science Fair

I think the Science Fair was pretty cool and there were a lot of good projects. I like the idea that we have no homework but we have to get 18 posts instead.

For the class Olympics I agree with Cody that we should get to know what the challenge is first before we decide who has to go in it. Go Athens Go!

As for the Olympics on T.V. I hope Canada wins against Russia. GO CANADA!

NO HOMEWORK

I think that the Science Fair was amazing and the talking through the tin cans were cool because you could hear the person on the other sde talking through the cans and I never thought that would work but I guess that I was wrong.

In the first peroid Canada has scored 4 goals against Russia and they have 1!!

GO SPARTA GO

Sparta is good at the physical activities but not the knowledge thing for the Class Oylimpics!!

Don't Like Homework

Ya I don't really watch the olympics on TV and I don't really care to but I still like it if we get a gold medal. Our olympic thing is pretty fun but we should have been able to know what the individual activities were before we had to choose who went in them. Go Thebes Go!!! We can win and everyone knows that we are the team to whatch out for. They are right!

Science Fair

Well went to the Science Fair it was pretty cool I liked the paper airplane one and the fossil one... And it turns out that the cookies were for the judges not pointing any fingers here... HMM HMM HMM HnHaHtMhMaMnM COUGH christian COUGH oh got to drink some water... me... oh where did that come from... Ahh funny.

Ski Cross- Chris Del Bosco

Canadian Chris Del Bosco who made it to the finals in ski cross did not get a gold medal on Sunday, Feb 21. The race started, and about 10 seconds into the race he fell behind to last place, shortly behind Norway's Audun Groenvold. Chris and Audun battled it out but eventually Chris got into 3rd place ahead of Audun. It was the second last jump when Chris had an akward twist in the air and fell hard, and Audun zipped by him taking the bronze medal. The gold medal went to Michael Schmid of Switzerland and silver went to Andreas Matt of Austria. Ski Cross is a sport that anything can happen.

Chris Del Bosco after he fell.

Way to go Jon Montgomery on winning a gold medal in skeleton!!! Every body is so proud!

Pull of in Double Overtime

Saturday a 2 and a half hour marathon between us and Bossivain in the opening game of our series. We came out firing in the first period with 3 goals at the intermission. My new stick must of been working cause I got all 3 goals, but from great plays by Cameron Whyte. We came out with a good first half of the second with a quick goal also scored by me. However the quick start soon clapsed with them getting 3 goals in the last half of the period. Third period we were flat with them taking over a 6-4 lead on us with only 10 minutes left in the game. Cam, Austin, and I bared down and another great play by Cam got me my 5th goal of the game. We got a powerplay and with a very good shot from the point by Brandon Masson tipped by Cam gave us the tying goal. Soon after a give and go between me and Brady Chyzyk gave us the leading goal. Shortly after though Bossivain scored to tie the game and send it in to Overtime. No scoring in the first OT. 5 minutes left in the 2nd OT Austin Brereton comes up huge with a nasty toe drag and a snipe right under the blocker of the Bossivain goalie gave us the win in a rollar coaster ride game. I was very glad to get off that rollar coaster but will soon be on it again on Tuesday. I finished the game with 5 goals and 2 assists fiving me 7 points out of a possible 8. Final score Virden 8 Bossivain 7.

Go For Gold!

Jon Mongomery of Russell, Manitoba got gold in skeleton. Lots of people are proud! His time was 3:29:73. Unfortunately I didn't get to see his run either, but I wish I had. Oh well, anyways go Jon!

Olympic Question

Why do both long track and short track speed skaters always race counterclockwise?

Shouldn't they have to go around the track both ways to show their skill?

Given the current state of affairs, do you think that they train their right leg and left leg muscles differently?  If not, should they?

Something to consider

Gold Medalist!!

Well lucky enough i was near internet...haha...I was so excited when Jon got gold!!! Unfortunatly i never saw his run..but Greg my sisters friend from Russell texted her and told her that he got gold! I am also happy that Crosby got the winning goal and that Brodeur saved the shots. :) Luckily I got to see that game!

Manitoba Hero!

Wow!

Great job Jon Montgomery!!

(It usually takes me a fair bit to use the double exclamation points, but a gold medal skeleton run, where Jon came from behind on his last run to win the event does it.)

Also really enjoyed the video clips of Jon celebrating afterwards in Whistler village.

Did anyone see the local sports coverage of the Medal Party at the Whyte's house here in Virden?  They are related to Jon, who is from Russell, and had a party to celebrate.

WOOOOOOOOOO John Montgomery has just won gold for Canada with a combined time of 3:29:73. Way to be Montgomery.

This is right after he knew he won.

Olympics

There was many exciting and nervous moments but Canada has beat Switzerland in a 3-2 shootout. It was 5 minutes into overtime when they called a shootout and then Crosby finally scored the winning goal.
"[I was] lucky to get a second crack at it, I'm glad to make the most of it" Crosby said after the game.

The Free-skating is on tonight too!

FIRST GOLD GOES TO...................................ALEX BILODEAU

On Sunday February, 14 2010 history was made on Cypress Mountain, BC, Canada, as Canada's Alex Bilodeau took home the first ever gold medal on home soil in the Olympics. Everyone expected Jennifer Heil to win the first gold medal in woman's moguls. However it was the opposite gender but same sport that took home the gold. His brother Frédéric Bilodeau was born with cerebral palsy. Brother Alex said, "he is my insipration, and a differance maker in my life." The docter told Frédéric that he wouldn't walk after the age of 10, not only did he walk after 10 he was skiing the slops with his brother. Alex said,"On the days that I don't want to go train, I think of Frédéric and how he can't go train." There is 1 gold medal for Canada so far, but i know that there will be more to come.

Kyle Parrott of Minnedosa, Manitoba raced his first race on Monday, Febuary 15.
Alexandre Biloeau was Canada's first is gold metalist for Canada. He won his gold metal on Sunday, February 14.

Winners!

Alexandre Bilodeau got Canada's first gold last Sunday (Feb 14) in men's freestyle moguls. He was the first ever to win a gold medal when Canada was holding the Olympics. He had a great run! His first jump was a double twisting back flip, and his second was a back flip with an iron cross. He landed them both and his knees were tight together going around the moguls. Kristina Groves won a bronze on Sunday (Feb 14) in Speed Skating! She was competing in women's 3000 meters. Her time in this race was 4:04.82 seconds. I have watched a lot of the Olympics so far like moguls, figure skating (pairs), speed skating, and luge. I love to watch all of it!
